Dear, Parishioners,

Today we celebrate the birth of the Church. Until Pentecost and the coming of the Holy Spirit on the apostles they lived hidden away for the most part, terrified of whaty would happen next now that Jesus had also abandoned them. We have to forget the readings from Acts since Easter as all those incidents took place after the first Pentecost. How wonderful today’s first reading conveys the enormity of what happened to them. Devout men ‘from every nation under Heaven’, now living in Jerusalem were about to hear the Word of God from these frightened followers of Jesus in their own language. Yes, the Word of the Lord is for all!
