6th June - The Body & Blood of Christ
Dear Parishioners & Visitors,
I for one am delighted that this great church feast has been moved from the traditional Thursday to the week
end. Some will see it as another concession to modernity. I look on it as a gift that more can “give thanks”
[Eucharist] to the Lord for His presence among us in this special way. He walks the highways and by-ways of
life and enters the cul-de-sacs too, even when we do not think about Him or believe that He can possibly be
in certain situations. The gift of the Body and Blood of Jesus is a reminder to all of us that he was broken for
our sake. He will not desert us. As the Gospel today says: “they all ate as much as they wanted” and we
need to gather around the table to know who we are.
- This weekend at all Masses the two ministries we offer from the Sanctuary, i.e the Word [readers] and Holy Communion [special Eucharistic Ministers] will renew their commitment to continue to serve the community in these roles.
- Bible Alive for June is in the Porch £1
- 8pm on Tuesday, we convene for our journey in Faith: Topic is “Models of the Church”.
- On Saturday June 12th at5pm there will be a Mass of Thanksgiving celebrated at Arundel Cathedral by Bishop Kieran for all New Catholics, their Families and Catechists.
- Statement of Parish Accounts 2009 can be found on the blue sheet for those who were not around last weekend. My very grateful thanks to the members of the Finance Committee for all they do.
- Prayer requests of thanks or petitions etc. may be added on cards to the book marked Lord Hear Our Prayer at the back of the Church. This book is carried to the altar at all Masses during the weekend and is also looked at by those coming into the Church to pray during the week
God Bless, Father John
