Dear Parishioners & Visitors,

It is not that long since Easter and today in Luke’s Gospel we have, “Jesus resolutely took the road to Jerusalem and sent messengers ahead of him” (Chapter 9).  In Matthew this happens much later (Chapter20).  This is merely an illustration of how the author (Luke) wishes to present as chronological.  After today’s reading we will, for many Sundays be presented with episodes that present a radical challenge to the disciples, the crowds and his hearers.  One of the words that politicians love to use today is radical.  Sometimes its only a smokescreen.  For Jesus this journey to Jerusalem highlights the journey every follower must take and the difficulties and conflicts involved.  We must all take the road to Jerusalem as Jesus did and face up to what comes our way.  In the succeeding Sundays we will encounter episodes that bring to light how we make that journey.  This is not a question of where we live or when but an inward journey to our true home, with our own experience of life and it is unique to us.  It is our travelling to God in the footsteps of Christ.
