20th June, 12th Sunday of the Year

Dear Parishioners & Visitors,

In today’s second reading from Galatians, St Paul gives us an insight into the development and change he himself was experiencing and as this flowed from “baptism in Christ”, so all who are “clothed in Christ” have this extraordinary inheritance.  The barriers and class distinctions of the societies they inhabited, Jews, Greek or Roman, slave or free person and male or female now are no longer an issue.  By virtue of that baptism, they are the true heirs of Abraham and properly called sons and daughters of God.  For the most part these distinctions do not concern us now, do we worry about nationality in church – I hope not, about class, school or privilege?  I hope not.  But Paul was ahead of his time if he thought the male and female issue died with baptism.  I am reminded of the statement, we are all equal but some are more equal than others.
